still for a while
These days
replay in my mind
Tonight

These feelings

Looking back on this year of filmmaking makes me emotional, honestly. It was a trying time, one of distress and discomfort, trying to get out of myself and my mind. Letting go has been the theme of the year, letting go of who I think I am and discovering who I really am, the truest most pure version of my soul. This was the year I really discovered I just want to tell stories. How I’m getting to that point doesn’t really matter to me anymore. I know that’s who I am, and will continue to do that until I die. If there’s one principle that would describe these works, it would be “seeing the beauty in imperfection”, which has later gone on to be my personal mantra of sorts. Embracing that has been a beautiful thing.

Brian Kershisnik (born 1962) is an American painter. One art professor described his style as primitive-realist, as his paintings have a dream-like quality focused on idealized human figures. His notable works include a portrait of Leslie Norris, Nativity, and She Will Find What Was Lost.<img width="4386" height="3765" width_o="4386" height_o="3765" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/f6ca6c68b7fd2c4b6d62734ac34ca76f3fd79f3f674ab2a4c8409ae05ae9c4dd/AdobeStock_597876593.png" data-mid="196773563" border="0" data-scale="96" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/f6ca6c68b7fd2c4b6d62734ac34ca76f3fd79f3f674ab2a4c8409ae05ae9c4dd/AdobeStock_597876593.png" />

I’ve always balanced roughly on the line of subjective and objective storytelling, as if I needed to abide by a certain set of rules if I was going to be a filmmaker. The more I try to let go, the better I become. For me my work isn't about an audience, or what could possibly be gained through their viewership. Rather it’s an expression of my thoughts and feelings being released into the world (whether my audience catches it or not). One of my favorite things is being able to look back and see that encapsulated feeling in contrast to where I am now. It’s felt like a metric for measuring my growth over the years. A glowing reminder of the past. I really do hope though, that you can gain something from these. Maybe it’s just another piece of the puzzle.

When I was a child, my mother said to me, ‘If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general. If you become a monk, you’ll end up as the Pope.’ Instead, I became a painter and wound up as Picasso.
